30,000’s a Crowd
With an estimated 25-30 thousand people attending, we strolled down Richmonds’ historic Monument Avenue during this years’ annual “Easter on Parade”. The previous few years we’ve had bad weather, or work got in the way, but this year everything lined up. (I took a few of these shots holding my camera above my head and randomly taking pictures of the crowd.)
Blocks of Monument Ave. are closed off to cars so the masses can walk the festival. Musicians set up on front porches playing for free (like the one above), street vendors line the streets selling food, and artists put up tents to sell their goods.
The girl above was dancing to one of the bands that played threw out the day. (Hand tinting black and white prints has always been one of my favorite things to do with photography and even though this was done in Photoshop, the result’s just as pleasing)
I didn’t take photos of this but tons of people bring their dogs and there’s always an Easter hat contest in which people show off their outrageous bonnet creations, some on the dogs. It’s always nice to walk around after church and before an Easter meal to celebrate and enjoy the day.
