Celebrating The 3rd Of July

The opportunity to photograph fireworks came to us early this year. My thanks go to a local company for deciding to celebrate the 4th of July by sponsoring their own fireworks show on the 3rd of July. Although not as large as others in the area, the show still draws a large audience.

My camera was set to a low ISO, and for simplicity, put on shutter priority. With that set up all that has to be done is to pick a shutter speed and the camera adjusts the other settings automatically in order to get a balanced photo.

I was able to borrow a telephoto lens from my neighbor again (Through The Eye Of My Neighbor’s Lens) which allowed me more versatility compared to my 18-55mm. I still had to crop some of the pictures but not nearly as much as if I had used my lens.

Experimenting with long exposure photography can produce some stunning results (Long Exposures At Posted Speeds) and the streaking light of fireworks, in my humble opinion offer the perfect subject. I will definitely be back next year to do it again.
