Long Exposures at Posted Speeds
After seeing this idea on the internet, I wanted to try it for my self. I set my camera to shutter priority (for simplicity) and stuck it in my car on a tripod. As soon as the sun began to set I was out driving around taking photos at different shutter speeds.
Exposures ranged from 4 seconds up to 3 minutes but most of the good shots came from the 20-60 sec. range. Although some of the shots captured what I was looking for, I want to try this again while driving on roads with varied amounts of light and also try getting the foreground crisper.
Despite all of the fun I had, being careless I fumbled my camera in the car while at a stoplight. I wanted to check how the pictures were turning out and when removing the camera from the tripod I dropped it. It only fell two feet and if it had just hit the carpet on the floor there would be no damage. Luck would have it that the top of the pop-up flash on the camera hit one of the metal rails that the seats slide on. So far other than a superficial mark that looks like I pressed my fingernail into clay, everything works fine.
